Tom Dirks- Secretary

I am incredibly honored to serve on the Board of Directors for Hands for Peacemaking, an organization that aligns perfectly with my deep passion for the people of Guatemala. Over the last eight years, I have had the privilege of traveling to Guatemala on hands-on service trips, working side-by-side with local families to implement life-changing solutions. I have seen firsthand how essential resources—like installing clean-air stoves and providing access to drinkable water—profoundly improve health, safety, and daily life. I am particularly driven by our holistic approach to community development, which not only empowers children through education but also reduces the heavy reliance on firewood, actively combating deforestation and preserving Guatemala's beautiful natural environment.

Professionally, I bring a wealth of operational and leadership experience to the board, having spent the last 36 years working as an IT Manager for Costco Wholesale. When I am not working or volunteering, my wife, Suzy, and I split our time between the vibrant energy of Seattle and the quiet beauty of Darrington. We are the proud parents of two wonderful adult sons, Oliver and Andy. Outside of my service work, I am an avid traveler; Suzy and I love exploring Europe, and we especially cherish our frequent trips to Germany to visit Andy and experience the rich culture and history of the region.
